International President Barb Horton CAP I Dear Member:
I hope that your membership in IAAP is providing you the value you thought it would: educational opportunities, increased networking and community building. We are working hard to turn IAAP into a remarkable association by 2010 to give you a consistent and valuable experience – beyond your expectations.
This July at the Education Forum & Annual Meeting (EFAM) in Minneapolis delegates will vote on whether to approve the dues increase proposed by the International Board of Directors. The dues increase will allow us to build our reserves and take advantage of opportunities to expand IAAP's programs and services to members, chapters and divisions. Without the sufficient dollars (budget or reserves), the Association’s ability to grow and to be innovative will be limited. If you haven't yet read the Position Paper, I urge you to do so now.
Many members have asked the International Board to provide specific numbers that justify asking for this increase today. We haven't done so not because we don't want to, but because the numbers are constantly being revised as new information comes in for monthly statements. The current economy is beginning to have a considerable impact on the IAAP financial statements. As of the end of April, the 2008-2009 budget is taking a hit in several areas:
· Investment income is 40 percent below last year’s mark · Certification exam income is down 8 percent compared to last year · Membership revenue is down substantially · Sponsorships have declined by 40 percent · Net assets are 60 percent below last year · Registration revenue for the International EFAM is approximately 40 percent lower than last year at this time.
Even with substantial cost-cutting measures, the result is a projected $30,000 loss for the next fiscal year. We are not asking for a $25 dues increase in the hope that a smaller amount will be approved. The fact is that the proposed increase is what we need now and is based on research and evaluation conducted by the International Board.
Please contact your chapter and division leaders now and lend your support to this proposed dues increase. Ensure you send your delegate informed about your position. Read the Position Paper.
The time to invest in your association is now. Create a platform of excellence in action by voting in favor of the proposed dues increase.
